Women
opening with strength
arms raised
and linked
over a coffee table
movie stars and video clips
tracking the laughter
until
I raise a single arm
above my body
Different Women
mirrors, coffee cups and tears
captivating the viewers
by lowered arms tucked inward
hands clenched against the others
until
the hurt erupts
followed slowly by healing words
then peace
then friendship
I watch
arm still raised
while I look longingly into their mirror
girl before a mirror by Picasso

Peace. Friendship. We all need more of that.
Carol - I don't know what to say, your poem has me still thinking. I'm trying to figure out what you were thinking while writing this poem.
Hi Fred,
Sometimes there needs to be a struggle before peace.
Hi Barbara,
I thought the images might help...
Love the poem and the painting!
Very interesting - I think I understand but I've heard it say that the best poetry can be interpreted differently by different people.
Perfect art to go with it.
That's really beautiful.
Hey, I heard there's going to be a reception party at your house (site)after the Blog Olympics, How will we get there? Is there a shuttle bus?
Say Carol - I notice that you (Lucy) have your arms raised high.

Thanks Lish!
Barbara Elle,
I agree about the Picasso. I love it.
Brother Terry,
I really don't watch tv that much but since I've have this cold that won't go away, I have been indulging in daytime tv. Interesting diversion!
Veronika,
The bronze winners will have a limousine pick them up right from their blog to mine. All others are welcome to take the shuttle which runs every 10 minutes.
Now Barbara, it is not good to mix metaphors!
Sister Celtic,
Thanks for the submissions. There are some changes for this week's Friendly Friday only. More about that tomorrow. I have them down for the 3rd of Feb.
What a beautiful contrast and resolution. Good work on the poem, and ditto for the art choice. I haven't seen that painting before, and I don't watch TV during the day either (except when I have a bad cold, then it's such a delicious indulgence).
Carol, that post we talked about is ready whenever you are.
Be well, be happy, dance the silly dance as often as you can.
