Our New Prime Minister

Conservative leader, Stephen Harper and his wife, Laureen, take to the stage in victory.
The Harpers are from western Canada.
Yes, the west is in!

"Finally, we have a handsome prime minister."

Thanks for stopping by my place, Carol. I can't help but notice that your new PM bears a striking resemblance to Bobby Orr. Being from Boston, I notice stuff like that...

That's for sure! Very nice looking couple. One of my best friends lives in Calgary. I'll have to ask him what he thinks of the results.

Hi Suldog,
Maybe the hair, not the nose...

Everyone else, repeat after me, "It is the policies that count..."

He is very nice looking but looks and charisma have nothing to do with getting "the job done" in the correct "common sense" way. I am kind of afraid for you guys in Canada, I hope you don't end up going waaaaayy to the right like America has..its gotten to be a pretty scary country now, not much middle ground or "balance" here anymore, you have to be careful what you say to people or they will "cream" you or verbally attack you..its gotten to be so one sided, and fearful people afraid to speak up and too prejudice for my liking and its darn scary!..so here's hoping your new guy is more grounded, mature, with some "common sense" and can do "the balancing act" better than "our guy" here in power! I hope and pray so!

Since I am not a Canadian I hope I didn't speak out of line.

The trend towards conservatism scares me a bit. Considering the brand of it we have in our country now.

Thanks Rhiannon and Collleen for speaking out.
Extremes on either side aren't the best but he seems mature to me. Time will tell.

Oh, I made my first comment deletion tonight because of a word that I wouldn't use. I guess I get to be a censorer of my own blog but I feel bad for the commenter because I know there was nothing meant by it.

Hi! Thanks for dropping by, Carol! To answer your question, it's actually a Bubblewrap shirt, not a skirt, hehe. It's the brand of shirt that we design and sell locally :-)

Actually, from what I hear the new prime minister won't be able to do too much damage because most of Canada is very progressive.

And looks ain't nothing if there's nothing inside...though he is kinda cute. ; )

Mr Harper's Conservatives won Canada's general election, but will as I understand it have to seek allies in parliament after failing to win an overall majority.

However, history suggests that minority governments in Canada struggle to push legislation through parliament, with few minority administrations lasting longer than 18 months.

How do you think it will pan out?

Dave,
There has to be a leadership race for the Liberals which will take a few months plus time will be needed to show if Harper can gain the trust of Canadians.

I predict another 18 months to 2 years if the PM is doing his diplomatic best.

Emily,
Some of Harper's allure may be to see that Canada not progress too quickly. He will have to deal with others that desire to so it will be interesting to see how he handles the issues.

Thanks for visiting fellow Olympians,Chrixean, Kdubs and Gabrielle. See you tonight for round 4.

Handsome couple, no comments on politics from this side. Thanks for visiting and go for the medal!

Hope this guy works out, if not you can just look at his picture.

Good luck to him, and we're looking forward to a closer relationship.

In my government class, I showed the commercials the Liberals were running on TV, how unfortunate.

Lish said...

They are an attractive couple. I don't know much about Canadian politics, so I hope that you are satisfied with him.

The words in quote were what I said to tease my political teenager. I am not that shallow, really!

Mar, I hear you. I am a listener on this subject as well.

Barbara and Lish, I feel pretty confident for some reason. It may be that he is not flashy or charismatic but more reserved and I theorize, an introvert. These qualities make for a different type of leader. It should be very interesting.

Yes Fred, the ads really backfired on them.

congrats on your new leader, I hope he makes good on his promises to you.

David!

There is something I've been wanting to ask you. What is the significance of that orange circular thing??
