But I Can Hear

bee
fridge
computer
hair dryer
vacuum cleaner

Constantly humming
your one note to me
I might have to listen forever to you

Don't listen
Pretend that I am not even here

ignore
practise the distraction of meditation and doing
and don't fear hearing things differently

crickets
shower
rain

Ugh. I've had tinnitus before. Actually, my hearing loss was preluded by tinnitus. Although the cause was never found, Meneire's was suspected. I hope that it is short-lived for you. It is so hard to ignore it!

Thanks Carol, I did it. You can check the link out for yourself....

I actually have a mild case of tinnitus. I was born with weak hearing (more on the right ear), and my husband thinks it's my excuse for not understanding the things he's telling me *eyes rolling*. So I constantly hear high-pitched buzzing sounds when it's quiet. Thought i was crazy when i was younger till I found out what it was really. Can be annoying but in time you get used to it...

My mum has tinnitus. She is a total coffee addict (and being a Finn she has it black and unsweetened). She's unlikely to ever quit drinking coffee, and her condition will probably stay with her. Treatment and coping with tinnitus includes giving up/limiting caffeine.

I grew up with tinnitus, probably a result of multiple ear infections. I didn't realize that I wasn't supposed to be hearing anything in silence. I just thought it was normal. So usually I don't think about the underlying hum and buzz. Caffeine may make it worse, but the absolute worst is when I'm really tired.

I didn't realize how common it is. Thank you for commenting.

Jennifer,
I am afraid of a hearing loss. This is a result of the ear infection I had.
I thought of you.

Su,
You are welcome. Glad I explained it well for you.
I don't normally drink caffeine but I have been drinking a bit of pepsi as I heard it could help with getting rid of plugged ears. (but it didn't help)

Chrixean,
If it is permanent, I hope I get used to it and it doesn't continue to bother me.

Bad Alice,
Has it gone away now?

I heard an interesting programme about a couple who went on holiday and were really close to the beach at night. The tinnitus 'disappeared'. Actually, it was masked by the sound of the ocean, and the lady has since slept with sounds of the sea (on tapes/cds). No trouble anymore.

Su, I just put on a tape of rain forest music. Thanks!

Hi Carol,
I love the way you have expressed your experience and thoughts in a poem. Speaking of poems, and in response to your post to me, I would love it if you would copy and paste our potluck FFMB poem into your Friday post. I'll have it up before 11 tonight PST.

Here's the text you wanted. I had used two but I think i may have sent you just the one ref.

Pro 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish; but he who keeps the law, he is blessed.

Have a good weekend.

Sorry the pepsi didn't work Carol..:-)..

I had terrible ear infection as a baby, so bad I was deaf and so had operation when just a baby, they removed my tonsils and adenoids, and those are important immune fights which I didn't have as a kid. I got my hearing back soon, then had to attend speech classes for two years when starting elementary school. They never knew whether I turned deaf as a baby or was born deaf with the infection. Ear infections can be serious so hope you heal soon. I will pray for you about it Carol. Do you feel a lot of pressure in your ears? Or just pain and the noise? Get better soon now! Okay? natural anti-biotic is golden seal which won't cause or create and make a yeast infection worse, as medicinal anti-bitotics when taking them for too long..

Love, Rhi

P.S. Did I already share me having the ear infection with you before? If so sorry repeating myself, my brain is getting too tired these days..:-(

Rhiannon,
No, you never told me that you had ear infections before. I appreciate that you share your experiences and what worked for you.
