Overcoming Anxiety

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpassses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things."
Philippians 4:6-8

Evidently anxiety is not a new problem. Some Biblical remedies for anxiety are:
  • prayer
  • thankfulness
  • positive thinking

  • Prayer is a well practised stress reliever. It turns the mind from the problem but don't think that God will magically change the situation. Often, there is work to do. Prayer can strengthen the heart to find solutions.

Thankfulness is a reminder of the blessings in our lives. It removes the desire to complain about the circumstances.

The mind is powerful but needs to be protected from constant negativity. Your body will reacte to whatever it is told.

God's advice is trustworthy. Faith is the trust a patient has for their doctor.

Today, I am the patient, trusting in the goodness of God to heal me. Faith is built through the trials of life.

"I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth."
    Psalm 121:1-2

    Carol,
I am not a 'religious' person, but when I read the end of your post ... Oh My!

In 1995, I lost a very good friend the day after Christmas. The quote you used was very helpful to me during that time even though my spirituality does not take on a Christian basis.

Psalms is an incredibly powerful part of the Bible. I am often moved by the passages, but in particular this one. Thank youf or sharing it. I think I'll take out my Bible and read the entire passage!

    Hi Erin,
I'm so glad that you reread this beautiful Psalm. You gave me a lift, as well!

Thanks Barbara so much. There are a few glitches but if I can't get 'em figured out,I know I can count on my blog friends for some advice.

Sorry to hear your health dipped.

So far as anxiety-cures, don't forget well placed dark humor or sarcasm to blow off the tension. In small amounts it works wonders too.
